History of the 1987 Dodge Ramcharger

Dodge offered the Ramcharger as a full-size two-door utility vehicle built on the Ram pickup chassis throughout the 1970s and 1980s. By 1987 the model had settled into its final years of production, still featuring the boxy profile and simple lines that defined the truck-based SUV segment at the time. Many examples served as daily drivers in rural areas, giving them a lived-in character that translates well on camera.

The 1987 model year placed the Ramcharger squarely in the late 1980s visual language that productions often seek for period accuracy. Its truck body and two-door layout distinguish it from later SUV designs, letting set decorators use it for scenes that need a capable, no-frills hauler. General historical context shows these vehicles appeared in both work and recreational roles across the United States during that decade.

Vermont Picture Car Rental Uses

Producers can use this Dodge for establishing shots that place characters in 1980s Vermont settings. The burgundy color and classic truck profile supply background texture in rural driveways, back roads, or small-town streets without drawing attention away from dialogue. Music videos and branded content shoots gain a period vehicle that feels grounded rather than staged.

Still photography sessions benefit from the two-door layout and automatic transmission when quick repositioning matters. Event planners and commercial directors can park the Ramcharger as set dressing that reinforces an era or regional tone. Independent filmmakers working on features or shorts find the vehicle helpful for character vehicles that need to look like they belong in northern New England.
