History of the 1968 Oldsmobile Cutlass 2 door hardtop
Oldsmobile introduced the Cutlass in the early 1960s as a mid-size model that grew in popularity through the decade. By 1968 the two-door hardtop body style had become a common choice for buyers who wanted a sportier profile without moving to a full convertible. The model year placed the car squarely in the muscle car era, when manufacturers emphasized V8 power and distinctive styling.
The hardtop design removed the B-pillar, giving the car a sleek side view that still reads clearly on camera. Dark exterior colors paired with vinyl roofs were factory options that many owners chose, and the combination remains recognizable in footage set during the late 1960s. Crews filming in California often look for vehicles from this exact period because the Los Angeles area contains many streets and buildings that match that decade.
California Picture Car Rental Uses
Productions can place the Cutlass in 1960s street scenes, drive-by shots, or as a character vehicle in period stories. The restored condition and moderate exhaust note allow it to sit in background traffic without drawing unwanted attention while still appearing authentic up close.
Still photographers and music video crews working in Los Angeles, California, can use the car for static setups or slow-moving sequences. Event planners and branded content teams sometimes request vehicles like this for displays or photo opportunities that reference mid-century automotive style.
