Spotlight on this 1966 RED MUSTANG CONVERTIBLE
The vehicle is a 1966 Ford Mustang convertible finished in red with a black interior. It features a removable red fastback fiberglass roof that lets crews switch the look from a standard convertible to a fastback profile in minutes. The car is equipped with a 289 engine paired to an automatic transmission, and it carries two-door bodywork that matches the era’s styling.
Producers can count on the red exterior and black trim to read clearly on camera in both daylight and night scenes. The removable roof adds flexibility for shots that need a sleeker silhouette without changing vehicles. Midlothian, Virginia placement means the car can reach sets across central Virginia quickly, reducing transport time for local shoots.

History of the 1966 RED MUSTANG CONVERTIBLE
The Mustang line launched in 1964 and quickly became one of the defining cars of the 1960s. By 1966 the convertible body style was already popular, and the addition of a fastback roof option gave owners and productions more visual variety from the same chassis. The 289 engine was a common choice that balanced performance with reliability for the period.
Convertibles from this year often appear in scenes set in the mid-to-late 1960s because the body lines and trim details are instantly recognizable. The fiberglass fastback roof on this example follows a modification style that was sometimes used to give convertibles a different profile for specific shots. General era context alone makes the car useful for any production that needs authentic 1960s automotive texture.
Virginia Picture Car Rental Uses
Crews can place the car in period street scenes, driveway establishing shots, or background parking areas where the red paint and convertible top stand out. The removable fastback roof lets the same vehicle serve both open-road and sporty silhouette needs within one production day. Music videos and still photography sessions benefit from the color contrast against Virginia landscapes or urban settings.
Commercials and branded content often need a classic Mustang to signal heritage or performance themes. Event planners can also use the car as a static display piece at automotive or 1960s-themed gatherings. Because the vehicle is already in Midlothian, Virginia, productions avoid extra travel days when the script calls for a red 1966 convertible.
